Blackbuck
$4,500
The blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) is a striking antelope species native to the grasslands and open plains of the Indian subcontinent. Males are easily recognizable by their distinctive spiraling horns and striking two-tone coats: dark brown to black on the upper body and white on the underparts and legs, which becomes more pronounced as they age. Females and young males, on the other hand, have lighter, fawn-colored coats without horns. Blackbucks prefer open grasslands, savannas, and lightly forested areas where they can graze on grasses and herbs. They are particularly fond of regions with sparse tree cover, such as the plains of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and the Deccan Plateau. These habitats provide ample visibility to watch for predators and plenty of space for their characteristic high-speed chases during the mating season.
