Scimbok
$8,500
The scimbok is a unique and fascinating hybrid resulting from the genetic cross between the gemsbok (Oryx gazella) and the scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah). This hybrid inherits striking features from both parent species, combining the gemsbok’s bold black-and-white facial markings and sleek tan coat with the scimitar-horned oryx’s distinctive curved horns and lighter, almost sandy coloration. The coat of the scimbok may vary in shade, often reflecting a blend of the two, and may include subtle variations like a slight darkening on the flanks and a paler underbelly. These hybrids typically inhabit arid and semi-arid environments, similar to those preferred by their parent species. They are well-adapted to open, desert-like landscapes, ranging from the sandy plains and rocky outcrops favored by the gemsbok to the dry grasslands and semi-desert regions once roamed by the scimitar-horned oryx. Scimboks, like their parent species, are well-equipped to survive in harsh conditions with limited water sources, obtaining much of their hydration from the vegetation they consume.
