$3,500

The wildebeest, also known as the gnu, is a large antelope species native to the grasslands and open plains of Africa. There are two main species: the blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) and the black wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou). Wildebeests have a sturdy, muscular build with a shaggy mane and a coat that varies in color from dark brown to bluish-gray, helping them blend into their surroundings. Both males and females have curved horns, which they use for defense and dominance battles. These herbivores are best known for their annual migration across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara, where massive herds travel in search of fresh grazing and water, often covering over 1,000 miles. They inhabit savannas, open woodlands, and floodplains in countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, and South Africa. Wildebeests are social animals, forming large herds that provide protection against predators like lions, hyenas, and crocodiles. Their incredible endurance, strong survival instincts, and ability to thrive in harsh conditions make them one of Africa’s most iconic and resilient species.
